A Word about My Work

P1 “The proper study of Mankind is Man.” Alexander Pope

My experience as a fighter pilot during World War Two in the Pacific Theater motivated me to explore the heroic nature of the human spirit through the creation of sculpture. Up until the time I started that effort I had attempted to address other complex internal issues of man’s nature through my painting.
Over time, I have found that the very different possibilities of these two mediums allow me to address various aspects of these two themes. Some of the results of this intention can be seen in the photographs on this site.
